Question 3

What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why? Film distribution is the process of making a movie available for viewing to an audience. This is normally the task of a professional film distributor, who would determine the marketing strategy for the film, the media by which a film is to be exhibited or made available for viewing, and who may set the release date and other matters. The film may be exhibited directly to the public through either a cinema, television or online release through streaming services such as Netflix. The distribution stage in the film industry is one of the most important stages in film making but is often referred to as 'the invisible art', a process known only to those within the industry, barely written about and almost imperceptible to everyone else. Distribution is about releasing and sustaining films in the market place. In the practice of Hollywood and other forms of industrial cinema, the phases of production, ...

Question 1

Casting

Image
For our opening sequence we needed a character that was going to stalk our main character. It was going to be a hooded character. When casting we had to decided who was best suited to the role. We found three suitable people for the role. We decided to use myself as I fit the required characteristics as well as not needing to use external people in the film as we would have to find the right time that they could film. A benefit from using me is I was always available when filming as I was also directing the film.

Location

Image
From the beginning it was clear that we wanted to have our main character going from a public place to and isolated place in order to make it look like she is vulnerable. We found that we could use my house in Yarnton for the first scene, then have Lauren leave my house run through a the village which is a public place. She then begins to go down a lane getting further and further away from civilization. We decided to have the stalker begin to follow her when she is is going down the lane, as this is the beginning of her getting away from the public she will look vulnerable to the audience. She then gets to the forest which is in complete isolation. We achieved this by using a range of shots of her running on her own with no contact with other people. Below are some photos of us filming in differnt locations which we used in our opening sequence.

Make up

Image
In our opening sequence we wanted it to be clear to the audience that the dead body had been brutally attacked by something. To create the special effects on Ciaran's neck we used things such as PVA glue and cotton pads to build the structure of the neck. then we used a variety of paints including red, pink, white, brown and black, to make his neck look like it had been attacked. We then used fake blood to  make is look even more realistic.

Production Schedule

Image
It is essential for our production to have a well planned production schedule, which included dates for pre-production and what we needed for each scene of our opening sequence. This included description of the scene, location, cast, props, costume and equipment. Having all of this written down helped us to not forget anything we needed and to help us organise when we could or could not film

Storyboard

Image
We created a storyboard to have a visual aid, this  makes it much easier for us to share and explain our vision for our opening sequence. We used this alongside our shot list to plan our opening sequence.

Shot List

Image
I devised a shot list with the camera angle and position in my house in order to know what order we would take shots and then edit them together. I spent two hours adjusting the camera and finding different angles in my room. The shot list also is our script as there isn't any dialogue, so it also shows what is actually going to happen in our opening sequence. There are a total of 28 shots in my house after that we decided where we wanted the shots outside. I had already location scouted and had a idea of where I wanted the shots

An American Werewolf in London

Image
After we had decided that our film was going to be a werewolf film I decided to do research into other werewolf films, one of which is An American Werewolf in London. It  is a 1981 British-American  horror comedy  film written and directed by  John Landis .  The film's plot concerns two young American men, David Kessler (played by David Naughton) and Jack Goodman (played by Griffin Dunne), attacked by a  werewolf  on a  backpacking holiday  in  England . The film  grossed $30.56 million at the box office. It received positive reviews from critics and  o ver the years, the film has accumulated a  cult following  and has become a  cult classic . The clip below is the second scene in the film and features David and Jack walking across the moors when the come across something growling in the distance. The camera circles around the two characters just like what the werewolf is doing. I wanted to try and do something...

Question 7

7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?- I would answer this question with a filmed group discussion so everybody could give their own opinions about how we have progressed individually and as a group. Each member can talk about what they think they have personally improved on during the task.

This question is asking me identify the things I learnt from using technology throughout our main task, I can then go onto evaluate this too. Question 5

Image
5. How did you attract/address your audience?- To answer question 5 I will look at similar genres/films also target audiences of similar films in order to address my audience. One-way in which I could attract and audience to our film is by creating a poster as a form of advertising, which would be able to promote the product. Posters for films are commonly used along with billboard and bus advertisements. I will answer this question by producing a poster and then talking about on a powerpoint presentation.
